The purpose of this course is to prepare the student for serious reading and analysis of literary texts in Spanish. The course will be an introduction to the concepts of literary criticism and the vocabulary of literary analysis. The course will introduce students to various methodologies, including close reading of texts and sociological and psychological approaches. Texts will be chosen from the three major literary genres: poetry, prose fiction, and drama. It is strongly recommended that students take either Spanish 300 or 305 before going on to literature or culture courses in the 300-400 range. Prerequisite: Spanish 212 or 220.
