This course is an introduction to the theory and practice of translation. Students will familiarize themselves with the different meanings of "translation," various approaches to the study of translated texts, methodologies used to translate across genres, and the relationship between translation and other disciplines, such as literature, politics, and cinema. A variety of technical, literary, and cultural texts from various national and linguistic traditions will provide opportunities to engage with translation theory through a comparative approach. Texts will be translated from Spanish to English and from English to Spanish. (Meets GEC Cultural Diversity Requirement. )
