RSCH 182 is open, by invitation only, to highly-motivated first year students with excellent first-semester GPAs, whose applications to enroll in the course are accepted by the Honors Fellows Committee. The ultimate goals of the course are to foster a strong commitment to intellectual life, and to encourage students, early in their academic careers, to consider occupations in research and teaching. Students conduct independent, individual research with Lake Forest College faculty members for ten weeks, beginning immediately after Commencement. This may include off-campus visits to libraries and museums, field work, archival research, content analysis, laboratory investigation, and other related activities. Students will also meet as a group for social activities, under the direction of the Summer Program faculty advisor, and present their work at a program symposium. Students will earn a stipend for 250 hours of research work to be completed above and beyond the 1 course credit graded
